University lacrosse in Wales is on the rise
Interest in lacrosse has been shown by the men in our major universities and Ray Nash is leading some exciting development activity!
Coaching sessions have been booked and a Men's Wales University team has been entered for the BNCs. There are two assistant coaches helping to run the training and they have received help from the Centurions with 20 sticks and balls made available for introductory sessions, with a promise of more help if a team is established. BUCS has suggested that next season the universities in Wales would be in line for BUCS kit, transport and assistance with training venues.
So if your university has not yet asked for coaching - now is the time!
Lacrosse Clubs in Wales
The importance of the clubs to our lacrosse development in Wales cannot be underestimated.
To raise their status and increase their membership, we need your help.
Two vital aspects of the WLA's new domestic development plan include a focus on schools (coaching and competitions) and clubs (coaching, development and competitions). We are raising funds to help with the provision of coaching time and we are liaising with 5x60 officers in different areas to provide lacrosse in more schools. Currently our thinking is school-club links: develop the numbers playing in schools linked geographically to local clubs. Our aim is simply to swell the numbers playing in both.
To be successful we need the clubs to cooperate. If you want our help you only have to show willing and join the WLA. You will understand that we cannot as an Association pour time, money and effort into helping our clubs to develop if they are not members of the Association. For only £10 your club can be joined to us, benefit from our coaching provision and, importantly, be insured through the Association. Your officers making decisions for your club will be covered for Civil Liability. We would also hope that individual members who benefit from extensive coaching would also wish to support the WLA. They are then insured in the event of personal injury. Our International representatives (men & women) may not play for Wales unless they have joined the Association.
Your support also means that the time and effort put into running a Welsh League by our volunteers is not wasted. Increasingly we want to develop the number and type of competitions we run and we need to cover the expenses incurred in running these. Your membership dues will help us to do this.
In a relatively short time we have started to reconstruct the official WLA website. We have to thank Andy Morgan for his time and effort in helping us to do this. Please go to it often! It will grow quickly, we hope! Obviously it has a page deveoted to Clubs. We are expecting that member clubs will make good use of this page one day, to share news and views and provide a link to your club's own website where there is one.
The WLA has also initiated a Newsletter. If you are a member you will have received these and more are in the pipeline. Show them to your family and friends and encourage them to join the WLA for current news!
Come on clubs - support your Welsh Lacrosse Association and join with us in promoting lacrosse in Wales!
